Cadets at Lancaster Squadron have the ability to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at the Bronze, Silver and Gold Level. The Award gives cadets the ability to learn a new skill, volunteer for a good cause, undertake physical activity and take part in an un-assisted expedition, in which they will be responsible for navigating, carrying all of their own equipment, camping overnight and cooking their own meals. Gold-level candidates also undertake a residential, in which they spend a week away from home doing activities such as a cadet camp, learning to sail a ship, or travelling abroad. The award is described as a “toolkit for life” and provides an excellent opportunity for cadets to build confidence, personal and interpersonal skills and independence.
